Earlier this week me and my sister Naomi visited a pick your own fruit and veg garden in Amsterdam called "Fruittuin van West" which translates to fruit garden from west. At the entrance we were greeted by a friendly girl who explained which fruits were ripe enough to be harvested. This included: apples, red berries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries! As kids we once visited another farm, where it was only possible to harvest apples and pears. I don't remember a lot about that day, but I do know that it was an amazing experience as a kid. Moreover, that day inspired me to have my own fruit and veggie patch somewhere in the future.
Overall we had a great day at the fruit garden. The weather was nice, the fruit that we could find tasted great and it felt very relaxing! However, in the future I wouldn't visit this kind of farm in the middle of August. Because now we were too late for picking cherries and most of the strawberries and raspberries but, too early for pears and corn. Even though, I will definitely visit this garden again I do want to try out some other ones as well. Maybe then I will be able to pick my own pears! I have a great pear jam recipe and I can't wait to share it with you. :)
So you probably won't believe how stoked I was to be able to pick my own berries! However, even though it finally felt like summer in the Netherlands we noticed that our timing wasn't that amazing after all... A lot of rasp-, and strawberries were already harvested by others or not ripe enough to be picked. Luckily, we could still find some great pieces of fruit! We mostly picked apples and red berries since there were plenty. The ripe red berries looked so pretty in the sunlight between all the green branches. They kind of looked liked rubies in my opinion, I had to take a picture.
